How many students participate in Summer Advantage?
Generally, from 65 to 100 students enroll in Summer Advantage. Space is limited, so applying early is recommended.

Can I visit places in Pullman on my own?
Yes, you can visit places in Pullman on your own. Please check in with student live-in staff so we know where you are going. This helps keep our Coug family safe!

Can I visit family and friends overnight?
Based on COVID-19 health and safety protocols, we recommend you stay on campus throughout the duration of the program.

What responsibilities and obligations do I have to the program?
All Summer Advantage students are expected to attend all classes, workshops, residence hall meetings, special “family-dinner” gatherings, and scheduled activities including weekend travel excursions. As in any community living environment, each student is expected to respect the rights of others, maintain reasonable cleanliness in the residence hall, and behave in a manner befitting collegiate life.
In addition, rules prohibiting the use or possession of any illegal drugs, including alcohol, are strictly enforced.
Individuals violating the University’s Standards of Conduct will be subject to the university disciplinary process the Office of Student Conduct and possibly WSU or Pullman police department.

How does Alive! work with Summer Advantage?
Alive! is online this summer and must be completed before arriving on campus. View dates and register for an Alive session.

What are my classes’ attendance policies?

How will I be able to contact my student?
Students are allowed to have their cell phone with them throughout the duration of the program, and this is the preferred method.

Will I be able to email my student?
Yes! As soon as the students apply for admission, they are assigned a WSU email address that you can use to contact them.

How many hours a day will my son/daughter need to study?
We recommend that if students want to earn A's and B's, they need to spend double the amount of credits they are in to be successful. If they are taking 15 credits, then studying for 30 hours each week gears them for success. That can be reading notes, going to tutoring, going to see professor in office hours, doing quizlets etc.

How many students live on campus?
Summer has a fairly low number of students living on campus. On average, we have about 225 students living on campus, including Summer Advantage students.

What steps does WSU take to ensure students safety during the program?
WSU takes a variety of measures to ensure safety on campus. Review the directory of campus services or view WSU’s campus safety plan.

What are the supervisory roles of Summer Advantage staff?
Summer Advantage staff are tasked with communicating program expectations and standards, helping maintain an environment that promotes student success, as well as providing support to students on an individual and group level.

What medical care is available to students?
Cougar Health Services provides student-centered, integrated health in counseling and psychological services, health promotion, as well as a medical clinic, pharmacy, and vision clinic.

What is the Student Recreation Center fee and the Chinook Fee?
The Student Recreation Center (SRC) fee and the Chinook Fees are both mandatory fees that all full-time undergraduate students pay for access to both facilities. These facilities contain the following amenities: workout spaces, a pool, study/lounge spaces, meditation rooms with foot wash stations, music practice rooms, and even a Nap Zone!

We have a family vacation scheduled during portions of Summer Advantage. Can my student still attend the program?
With the accelerated course-work that is required for summer courses, as well as current risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, you should schedule your vacation time outside of the Summer Advantage timeframe.
