Follow These Steps

Step 1

Get accepted to WSU and pay $200 admission deposit

Congratulations on becoming a Coug! We’re so excited you’re joining our family! If you haven’t already done so, accept your WSU admission offer by paying the $200 tuition deposit to the Office of Admissions. You cannot register for Summer Advantage or Alive! orientation without it!

Step 2

Complete FAFSA and WSU financial aid forms

Although the priority funding deadline for Financial Aid is January 31, you may still be eligible for funding to help with Summer Advantage fees. Apply for financial aid now! Regardless of whether or not you receive Financial Aid for this summer, you will still owe all tuition and fees if you attend Summer Advantage.

Step 3

Register for Summer Advantage

To register for Summer Advantage you will need to complete and submit your online registration (coming soon). We will then bill your student account for tuition, fees, and housing and dining costs.

Step 4

Register for New Coug Orientation

Alive! is a three-day orientation session for new students. As a Summer Advantage student, you will get a more in-depth knowledge of the university during your five weeks on campus, but New Coug Orientation allows you to register for fall semester courses and work with a faculty advisor.

This program is not part of Summer Advantage, but must be taken before Summer Advantage begins.

Please check back in Fall 2022 for New Coug Orientation dates.

Step 5

Take WSU’s ALEKS Math Placement Exam

All incoming students  are required to take the online ALEKS Math Placement Exam for Fall 2023 placement into math classes. You can practice and retake the exam, so it may be a good idea to start this process early.

Step 6

Take the Writing Placement Exam proctored online through Global Campus

You have the option to take the WSU Writing Placement Exam online before you attend your New Coug Orientation session. The exam must be completed two weeks before attending New Coug Orientation and Summer Advantage. Allow an additional two days between signing up and taking the exam.

For instructions on how to take the writing placement exam before New Coug Orientation, visit the Writing Placement Center website. For questions, contact the Writing Placement Center at writing.program@wsu.edu or call 509-335-7959.

Step 7

Complete New Coug Orientation

All incoming students are required to complete an New Coug Orientation prior to the start of Summer Advantage (La Bienvenida or Sessions 1, 2, 3, or 4). This is when you will register for Fall courses and learn more about being a student at WSU.

If you did not take the online Writing Placement Exam ahead of time, you will be required to take the WSU Writing Placement Exam during Alive! to determine the best courses for you to be successful at WSU. If you have questions, please contact the Writing Placement Center at 509-335-5898 or writing.placement@wsu.edu.

Step 8

Move In

Check into Northside residence hall on the Friday before classes begin.

More information regarding check in, living on campus and meals will be emailed to registrants.

Step 9

WSU does not mail billing statements for tuition and fees. Log on to myWSU to check and pay your balance for tuition and fees. Choose the link “Finances” on the left-hand side of the page. Charges will appear once we have enrolled you in the Summer Advantage courses. Your payment for tuition and fees is due before classes begin.
